The painting was never finished. In places you can still see the white ground and the blue grid of the composition.
画出来的框 A painted frame
修拉在画布边缘画了一圈深色边框，又配了一个同样深蓝色的平面画框，让画框也成为作品的一部分。
Seurat painted a dark border on the edge of the canvas, and added a flat frame in the same blue, making the frame part of the work.

Near Seurat's studio was a popular circus, painted by Renoir, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec. In 1890, Seurat began to paint it too.

With this painting, Seurat sought to bring artistic creation and scientific analysis together: the direction of every line, every contrast of colour, carefully considered.

ACT III 第三幕 · 最后一幅 His last painting
1891年3月，这幅没有画完的画在独立艺术家沙龙展出。几天后，修拉因病去世，年仅31岁。1977年起，它收藏在奥赛博物馆。
In March 1891, the unfinished painting was shown at the Salon des Indépendants. A few days later, Seurat died of an illness, aged just 31. Since 1977 it has been at the Musée d'Orsay.

乔治·修拉（1859–1891），法国画家，生于巴黎，在巴黎美术学院接受过传统训练。他发明了用对比色小点作画的技法，后来被称为点彩派。他31岁就去世了。
Georges Seurat (1859–1891) was a French painter, born in Paris and trained at the École des Beaux-Arts. He developed a technique of painting in dots of contrasting colour, later known as pointillism. He died aged 31.
