河边的餐厅 A restaurant on the river

This is the Maison Fournaise in Chatou, right on the Seine, where rowers could paddle up and stop for a meal.
艾琳和小狗 Aline and her dog

The woman cooing at her little dog, lower left, is Aline Charigot, a seamstress. She later married Renoir.
反坐椅子的卡耶博特 Caillebotte, sitting backwards

Sitting backwards on his chair at the lower right, looking across at Aline, is the painter Caillebotte, also a keen and experienced sailor.

The burly man leaning on the balcony railing is Alphonse Fournaise Jr., son of the restaurant's owner.

Bottles, glasses and a bunch of grapes are still on the table: lunch is over, but no one wants to leave.

In the summer of 1880, on the balcony of the Maison Fournaise by the Seine, Renoir asked his friends to pose and painted this lunch party.

It is among the largest and most complex canvases Renoir ever painted. He brought more than a dozen friends, one by one, into a single afternoon.

ACT III 第三幕 · 十二年的等待 Twelve years of waiting
美国收藏家邓肯·菲利普斯1911年第一次看到这幅画，就一直想得到它。1923年，他终于买下了它。他写道：“我们将拥有世界上最伟大的画作之一。”
The American collector Duncan Phillips first saw this painting in 1911 and wanted it ever since. In 1923 he finally bought it, writing that his gallery was "to be the possessor of one of the greatest paintings in the world".

皮埃尔-奥古斯特·雷诺阿（1841–1919），法国画家。他和莫奈在学画时就是好友，是印象派的核心人物之一。19世纪80年代，他开始离开印象派，转向古典艺术。
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) was a French painter. He and Monet became friends as students, and he was one of the leading Impressionists. In the 1880s he began to move away from Impressionism towards classical art.
